3808169 - Error GP626 when creating Service Purchase Order in ME21N

Symptom

When creating a Purchase Order for Services in transaction ME21N, you enter a delivery date that falls in a future fiscal year (e.g. 01.02.2028). Upon saving, the following error is displayed and the document cannot be saved:

"Controlling Version 0 is not defined for Fiscal year 2028" (message GP 626)

This behaviour occurs in SAP S/4HANA only. The identical scenario in SAP ECC does not trigger the error.
