3808578 - Intercompany supplier invoice not created or saved with errors after intercompany billing

Symptom

In intercompany sales, after the billing document is created in the selling company code, the supplier invoice in the buying company code is not consistently created automatically.

In some cases, the supplier invoice is generated but saved with errors during posting.

In other cases, the supplier invoice is not created at all.

Environment

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Run the intercompany sales process and create the intercompany billing document in the selling company code.
  2. Ensure the related intercompany purchase order item in the buying company code has GR-based invoice verification active and that no Goods Receipt (GR) has been posted for the item (for example, Latest GR Date is empty).
  3. Allow the automatic creation of the intercompany supplier invoice via Monitor Value Chains.
  4. Observe that the supplier invoice is either not created or is created and saved with errors due to a variance between system-proposed values (based on confirmed GR quantity) and the billing amount.

Cause

GR-based invoice verification is active on the referenced purchase order item, but no Goods Receipt has been posted.

The system proposes zero quantity/amount from the PO (no confirmed GR) while the intercompany billing transfers a non-zero amount, creating a 100% value variance.

As designed, the system then saves the supplier invoice with errors or does not create it until a GR provides a valid quantity/amount basis.

Resolution

Identify the intercompany purchase order item linked to the affected sales order (for example, via Monitor Value Chains).

Open the purchase order item and check the Delivery tab:

1. Confirm that GR-based invoice verification is active.

2. Check whether a Latest GR Date is present.

If no Goods Receipt exists, post the required GR for the relevant quantity in the buying company (for example, via Post Goods Movements or from the purchase order).

After posting the GR, reprocess the intercompany supplier invoice creation:

1. Re-run the intercompany supplier invoice step in Monitor Value Chains, or

2. Adjust and post the invoice in Create Supplier Invoice – Advanced (MIRO) so that it matches the GR-confirmed quantity/amount.

Repeat the checks and steps above for any other affected documents where the supplier invoice was not created or was saved with errors.
