Symptom
- Running the CLI to start a task chain shows:
- error: unknown command 'tasks'
Make sure to always define the host using the --host option or by running datasphere config host set "<Server_URL>". Did you initialize the CLI by running datasphere config cache init --host "<Server_URL>"? Add option --help, -h or go to tinyurl.com/datasphere-cli-help for additional information.
- error: unknown command 'tasks'
- Executing commands such as:
- datasphere tasks consent get
- datasphere tasks chains run ...
- datasphere tasks --help --host
- Issue started around Sep 10, 2026.
Environment
- SAP Datasphere
- SAP Datasphere Command Line Interface
Reproducing the Issue
- Open a terminal where the Datasphere CLI is installed and authenticated.
- Run: datasphere tasks consent get
Cause
A service discovery schema change delivered with Datasphere wave 2026.19 introduced a breaking change for older Datasphere CLI versions.
CLI versions prior to 2026.10.0 could not parse the updated discovery JSON (expecting a string where an array is now allowed), which prevents the CLI from registering the tasks command.
Resolution
- Update the CLI to the latest version (minimum 2026.10.0 required): npm install -g @sap/datasphere-cli
- Verify the update: datasphere --version
- Re-test the commands
- If the issue persists, increase logging for troubleshooting, then re-run and collect the output:
- set LOG_LEVEL=6
- run the command that does not work
- collect the output
- set the log level back afterward: set LOG_LEVEL=1
- raise a support case to DS-API-CLI and attach the output in the case.
