Symptom
- Changing a configuration using Configurations V2 API (PATCH to /configurations/{configurationId}/attributes/{standardAttributeCode}) returns HTTP 200
- After this change, opening the product configurator for the related quote item throws an error
- Reconfiguring the quote allows opening the configurator again, but the configuration resets to defaults.
Environment
SAP CPQ
Reproducing the Issue
- Open a quote that contains a configurable product
- Run a script or integration that performs a PATCH via Configurations V2 API to update an attribute on an existing configuration (endpoint: /api/configuration/v2/configurations/{configurationId}/attributes/{standardAttributeCode})
- Observe that the PATCH response is HTTP 200 (success)
- In the quote, attempt to open the product configurator for the affected item and observe an error
- Perform a reconfigure of the quote and note that the configurator opens, but the configuration defaults.
Cause
Editing a configuration that is associated to a quote item via Configurations V2 API is not supported.
Resolution
- Do not use Configurations V2 API to modify configurations that are associated to quote items; these calls are unsupported and may result in errors or be rejected
- Suggested approach is to perform changes through scripting.
