• Using Fixed Asset - Master data OData V4 API to update time-dependent master data (time-based valuation) for fixed assets.
• When a non-existent depreciation key (for example, "WHY") is sent, the API returns HTTP 200 Success and SAP__Messages is empty.
• The asset master data is not updated.
• Expected behavior is an error indicating the depreciation key is invalid.

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

1. Prepare a request to the FixedAsset entity of the Fixed Asset - Master data OData V4 API.
2. In the payload, set _Ledger[0].Ledger = "0L" and include _Valuation for AssetDepreciationArea "01" with _TimeBasedValuation where ValidityStartDate = "2026-01-01" and DepreciationKey = "WHY" (example): {"_Ledger":[{"Ledger":"0L","FixedAssetObjectActionCode":"02","_Valuation":[{"AssetDepreciationArea":"01","FixedAssetObjectActionCode":"02","_TimeBasedValuation":[{"ValidityStartDate":"2026-01-01","FixedAssetObjectActionCode":"01","DepreciationKey":"WHY","PlannedUsefulLifeInYears":"4"}],"DepreciationStartDate":"2026-01-01"}]}]}
3. Submit the request in a test system.
4. Observe the response: HTTP 200 with entity data, SAP__Messages [], and no update applied to the asset.

• Active substitution rules for asset master data replace the incoming depreciation key and/or planned useful life before validation, converting the invalid value to a valid one.
• After substitution, the values may match the existing time-based valuation, so no update is performed and no validation error is returned.

1. Open the Manage Substitution/Validation for Asset Master Data app with a user that has the required authorization.
2. Review active substitution rules that affect time-based valuation fields (for example, Depreciation Key and PlannedUsefulLifeInYears).
3. Deactivate or adjust any rule that substitutes the incoming depreciation key or useful life in a way that prevents validation of invalid values.
4. Optionally add or adjust validation rules to explicitly raise an error for invalid depreciation keys in time-based valuation.
5. Re-test the API request with the invalid key. If substitution is disabled or adjusted, the API should return an error as expected. If substitution remains and results equal existing values, the API returns HTTP 200 with no update and no messages by design.
