3809485 - Error message PP_ODATA_API_PLDORD/020 "Alternative item cannot be updated at component level" occurs when updating component using planned order API

Symptom

When changing the quantity of an alternative component via planned order API, error message PP_ODATA_API_PLDORD/020 occurs in response. 

Environment

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Create a planned order with an alternative component.
  2. Call Planned Order(OData V2) API: PATCH <host>/sap/opu/odata/sap/API_PLANNED_ORDERS/A_PlannedOrderComponent(<Reservation>,<ReservationItem>) with payload {"GoodsMovementEntryQty": "*", "EntryUnit": "*" } to update this alternative component.
    Or, call Planned Order(OData V4) API:PATCH <host>/sap/opu/odata4/sap/api_plannedorder/srvd_a2x/sap/plannedorder/0001/PlannedOrderComponent(<PlannedOrder>,<Reservation>,<ReservationItem>). 
  3. Observe error message PP_ODATA_API_PLDORD/020 occurs in response. 

Cause

This is system standard design.

Updating alternative materials in planned orders is not supported by the planned order APIs, which leads to error message PP_ODATA_API_PLDORD/020. 

Resolution

Manually change the quantity of an alternative component in Change Planned Order app. 

If it's needed to update alternative materials in planned order by API, raise a feature request.
