Symptom
While a already cleared Supplier invoice is reversed, the system allows the invoice to be reversed without resetting the corresponding clearing entry.
Environment
SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition
Reproducing the Issue
- Identify an Supplier invoice that is already cleared (a clearing document exists).
- Perform a reversal of the cleared invoice.
- Observe that the system allows the reversal without first resetting the clearing entry.
Cause
By design, MM invoice reversal and FI clearing are decoupled in SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition, so reversing a cleared invoice does not reset the clearing document and can create an additional open item, and this behavior is not a defect.
Resolution
- Open the Reset Cleared Items app (F2223).
- Select the relevant clearing journal entry for the invoice.
- Choose Reset and Reverse to undo the clearing.
- Confirm that the original invoice is open again.
- Reverse the invoice afterward, if required.
- For high-volume activities, optionally use the Schedule Jobs to Reset Cleared Items app (F9296) to process mass resets.
Note: There is no standard configuration to prevent invoice reversal of cleared items; consider process controls (for example, authorizations) if prevention is required.
