Symptom
- A user assigned only to one space runs a wrapper task chain in that space which nests a shared task chain from a different space; the nested execution fails.
- Error message: "User does not have permission to run the task."
- The same configuration previously succeeded, but now the nested child task chain fails immediately while the parent starts.
- The same chain succeeds when started by a user who is assigned to the source space of the shared task chain.
Environment
- Product: SAP Datasphere
- Scheduling and Task Chains
Reproducing the Issue
- Create a task chain in a source space and share it to a different (target) space.
- In the target space, configure a wrapper task chain that nests the shared task chain from the source space.
- Use a user assigned only to the target space (no assignment to the source space) to start the wrapper task chain.
- Observe that the nested task chain from the source space fails immediately with "User does not have permission to run the task."
Cause
The user starting the shared (nested) task chain is not assigned to the source space and does not have the required role to run task chains there. As per product behavior, a user running a shared task chain must also be assigned to the source space and have the DW Integrator role in that space.
Resolution
- Assign the user to the source space from which the task chain is shared.
- Grant the user the DW Integrator role in the source space to allow running shared task chains.
- Ensure role setup follows guidance: DW Modeler can create/share task chains; DW Integrator can run task chains and set notifications. The consuming user must have DW Integrator in the source space.
- Save changes and re-run the wrapper task chain from the target space to confirm successful nested execution.
