3825074 - Why is a booking issued on Hahn Air HR-169 ticket stock in Concur Travel?

Symptom

A booking can involve three different carrier roles:

  • Marketing carrier: The carrier whose code is used to market the service.
  • Operating carrier: The carrier or supplier that physically operates the flight or rail journey.
  • Validating carrier: The carrier whose ticket stock is used to issue the electronic ticket.

The validating carrier does not always need to be the marketing or operating carrier.

For example, an itinerary may contain a Eurostar segment under carrier code 9F, while the electronic ticket number begins with 169. The 169 prefix identifies Hahn Air as the validating carrier. Eurostar still operates the journey, while Hahn Air provides the ticket stock used to issue the ticket.

The first three digits of a standard electronic ticket number identify the validating carrier’s IATA accounting prefix.

A ticket number may be displayed with or without a hyphen:

169-XXXXXXXXXX

or:

169XXXXXXXXXX

In both formats, 169 identifies Hahn Air as the validating carrier.

A difference between the validating carrier and the marketing or operating carrier does not, by itself, indicate that the booking was issued incorrectly.
