3830428 - Warning: "FINCS_DTX-038: Too many decimal places. Unit EUR has 2 decimal places" during file upload in Data Monitor

Symptom

When uploading an Excel file in Data Monitor, you receive the warning message FINCS_DTX-038: Too many decimal places. Unit EUR has 2 decimal places.

Environment

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to the Data Monitor app.
  2. On task 1000-Import Reported Data, upload your Excel file.

Observe the warning message: FINCS_DTX-038: Too many decimal places. Unit EUR has 2 decimal places.

Cause

The uploaded Excel file contains values affected by floating‑point representation explained by how Excel internally represents decimal.

For example, a value like 631649468.32 is internally stored as 631649468.32000005, which exceeds the allowed currency precision and triggers the warning.

Resolution

Proceed with the upload as the message is a warning only and does not block processing. Import Reported Data (IRD) automatically rounds to the allowed currency precision (for EUR: 2 decimals).

To avoid the warning entirely, export and upload the data in CSV format instead of Excel to prevent floating‑point artifacts.
