Symptom
When a Sales Order is created manually, the system automatically determines and populates the Payment Reference Type.
However, when a Sales Order is created as a follow-up document from a Sales Quote, the Payment Reference Type remains empty.
There is no field available in the Sales Quote to maintain the Payment Reference Type.
Environment
SAP Business ByDesign
Reproducing the Issue
- Create a new Sales Order manually.
- Observe that the Payment Reference Type is automatically populated.
- Create a Sales Order using the follow-up action from an existing Sales Quote.
- Observe that the Payment Reference Type remains empty and is not automatically determined.
Cause
This is standard system behavior.
The field Payment Reference Type is available in the Sales Order, but it is not available in the Sales Quote.
Therefore, when a Sales Order is created from a Sales Quote, there is no source value that can be transferred or inherited for the Payment Reference Type. As a result, the system does not automatically determine the Payment Reference Type during the creation of a Sales Order from a Sales Quote.
Resolution
The behavior is expected by design.
Since the Sales Quote does not contain the Payment Reference Type field:
- The value cannot be maintained in the Sales Quote.
- The value cannot be transferred from the Sales Quote to the Sales Order.
- The Payment Reference Type is therefore not automatically determined when the Sales Order is created as a follow-up document from a Sales Quote.
