Symptom
- Error occurs when releasing SD billing documents to accounting.
- Error message: FINS_ACDOC_DB007 — “External document numbers starting with character ‘G’ are internally used by SAP.”
- The accounting document number generated during release starts with “G”; the system rejects the posting.
Environment
SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition
Reproducing the Issue
Try to maintain number range starting with B, C, D, M, P, R, S, G or T as a starting character.
Cause
- External document numbers starting with ‘G’ are reserved for postings to technical ledgers (for example, profit center valuation, actual costing).
- This reservation was introduced with the technical ledger in 2020 so it is not allowed. Use different character.
Resolution
The English alphabetical letters B, C, D, M, P, R, S, G and T are by default reserved by SAP for the technical documents which are to be created during S/4 HANA financial data migration and other FI processes.
During the execution of different FI processes ( eg: the migration or the first posting ) the system checks table BKPF to identify if any of these letters are already used, if BKPF does not contain any document starting with these letters then the default letters are reserved if not then next available letter is reserved.
So the entry of table FINS_BELNR_NR can be different in different clients based the documents with external number ranges in BKPF.
