3831530 - Very large amounts in journal entry ledger view line item due to document splitting in SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

In SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition, you see unreasonably large amounts (such as billions) in the journal entry ledger view's line item, which is caused by document splitting mechanism.

The amount generated is much bigger than other original items. You would like to know why such large amounts are generated.

1. The situation is not limited to specific transaction. For example: post an incoming payment and clear multiple open items in the Clear Incoming Payments app.
2. Include items related to different profit centers or mixed business processes in the same clearing.
3. Display the journal entry: entry view shows expected totals, but ledger view (after document splitting) shows very large offsetting amounts on profit center lines.

This is expected result of document splitting due to combination of the amounts of original line items and that more than one profit center (or splitting characteristics) is involved.

In such situations, when document splitting is run, the total of the amounts of the base row is very small. For calculating the split amounts, the system uses the total of the amounts of the base rows as a divisor. This results in very large amounts.

(because +100,01 / +0,01 * +1.000 = +10.001.000,00)

(because -100,00 / +0,01 * +1.000 = -10.000.000,00)

So a large amount of 10,000,000 is shown in the result.

In the totals, the created split lines lead again to the original correct amount of +1000.

This is expected result of document splitting.

To prevent such situations, check if the profit center assignment is correct or split the transaction into several documents.
