Advantages of Using the New Outlook Add-in Over Classic Outlook
1. Platform Independence
The New Outlook Add-in is platform-independent and can be used across multiple operating systems, not just Windows, providing greater flexibility and accessibility for users.
2. Support for Web-Based Add-ins
The New Outlook supports web-based add-ins, enabling seamless integration with Outlook 365 and ensuring a consistent experience across desktop, web, and mobile platforms.
3. Simplified Deployment and Maintenance
Web-based add-ins can be deployed and updated centrally, eliminating the need for individual client-side installations and reducing maintenance effort.
4. Improved Cross-Platform User Experience
A single add-in solution can work across different Outlook clients, helping organizations deliver a consistent user experience to all users.
5. Future-Ready Architecture
Microsoft continues to invest in web add-in technology, making the New Outlook a more scalable and future-ready platform for modern integrations and enhancements.
Planned Enhancements
We are currently working on enabling the remaining Outlook write-back functionalities. Due to the deprecation of EWS-based services and their lack of support in the New Outlook experience, these features could not be included in the initial release (Phase 1). Our development team is actively implementing these capabilities using Microsoft Graph APIs as part of the next development phase (Phase 2).
Features Planned for Phase 2
The following enhancements are planned for a future release:
- Simultaneous creation of appointments in the Outlook Calendar.
- Simultaneous creation of tasks in Outlook To Do.
- Downloading and saving Accounts and Contacts to the Outlook People section in separate folders, similar to the functionality available in the existing Outlook COM Add-in.
- Support for Single Sign-On (SSO) and SAML-based authentication.
Important Note
- Until phase 2 is rolled out customers can use Classic Outlook COM Add-in to use above 4 features.
- Please note that there is currently no confirmed timeline for the availability of these features, as development activities are still in progress. We will provide further updates as soon as additional information becomes available.
Closing Statement
We appreciate your patience and understanding as we continue to enhance the New Outlook Add-in experience and work toward delivering feature parity with the existing Outlook COM Add-in.
