3831751 - "[Error Code: 12]" in ExternalUser OData API

Symptom

The error below is occurring in ExternalUser OData API:

"[Error Code: 12]An error has occurred, please contact the system administrator"

Environment

  • SAP SuccessFactors HCM Suite
    • OData API

Cause

The user being upserted is not an external user (does not have status 'e' or 'd').

Resolution

ExternalUser API must be used only to Upsert external users (users that have status either set to 'e' or 'd'). If the user being updated has any other status, it will fail with this error.

Use the User API in order to update users with other status, such as 't' or 'f'.
