Symptom
A Story Report imported from the content Store displays the following error on one or more filters:
"Filter unavailable: This filter is no longer usable because the data source, dimension, selected hierarchy or custom group no longer exists, the dimension has a missing required hierarchy or the dimension type has changed."
The error persists even after:
- Refreshing the model and the story
- Reconfiguring the field
- Retagging/reassigning the dimension
- Adjusting the batch configuration
- Verifying the dimension still exists and is correctly populated
Environment
SAP SuccessFactors HCM Suite
Cause
The story's filter definition is still referencing an older version of the underlying data source. When the story's data model was updated or regenerated, the existing filter definitions were not refreshed to match. As a result, SAC attempts to validate the filter against a data source version that no longer exists, triggering the error. This can happen on standard templates after validating the data source and correcting the validation errors.
Resolution
Open the affected Story in Story Designer and perform the following steps for each affected filter:
- Remove the affected filter.
- Re-add the same dimension as a new filter, selecting it from the current active data source.
- Republish the story.
This re-binds the filter to the current active data model and resolves the error.
Note: This issue can occur on any Standard Template from the Content Store after a data model update or regeneration. The fix must be applied per affected filter.
