Symptom
During purchase order creation, you entered a quantity in A (A represents the UoM) is initially accepted but then you converted it to the base unit B (B represents another UoM).
Although you maintained the material data includes Base Unit = B and Alternative Unit = A with a maintained conversion, the purchasing data for the material shows Order Unit = A and Variable Purchase Order Unit is active, the purchase order item displays the quantity in B.
Environment
SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition
Reproducing the Issue
- Open the app for creating a purchase order.
- Enter a supplier.
- Enter a material that has Base Unit = B and Alternative Unit = A with a valid conversion.
- Enter a purchase order quantity.
- Select A as the order unit.
- Confirm the entry.
- Observe that the system changes the order unit to B and converts the quantity accordingly.
Cause
A Purchasing Info Record (PIR) exists for the supplier–material with Order Unit = B and Variable Order Unit not activated; PIR settings take precedence over material purchasing data, causing the order unit to be set to B and quantities converted accordingly. This is standard behavior.
Resolution
If users must create purchase orders in A, please change the PIR Order Unit from B to A so that A is the default order unit in purchase orders.
