Symptom
It is necessary to verify whether two Azure public cloud resources (e.g., Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS) and SAP Datasphere) are hosted in the same Azure region to troubleshoot connectivity, latency, or configuration issues.
Environment
- SAP Datasphere
- Microsoft Azure Public Cloud
- Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS)
Resolution
Step 1 — Resolve the IP address of Storage Account 1 (e.g., ADLS)
-
Open Command Prompt (
cmd) on a Windows machine. -
Run the following command, replacing
<Storage Account Name 1>with the actual Azure storage account hostname:nslookup <Storage Account Name 1>Example:
nslookup myaccount.dfs.core.windows.net -
Note the resolved IP address from the output.
Step 2 — Check the region of Storage Account 1
-
Open a web browser.
-
Navigate to the following URL, replacing
<address>with the IP address obtained in Step 1:https://ipgeolocation.io/what-is-my-ip/<address> -
Note the values for Region/City and Organization (the Organization field typically shows the cloud provider name, e.g.,
Microsoft Azure).
Step 3 — Resolve the IP address of Storage Account 2 (e.g., Datasphere)
-
In the same Command Prompt window, run:
nslookup <Storage Account Name 2> -
Note the resolved IP address from the output.
Step 4 — Check the region of Storage Account 2
-
Navigate to:
https://ipgeolocation.io/what-is-my-ip/<address> -
Note the Region/City and Organization values.
Step 5 — Compare the results
Compare the Region/City and Organization values from Step 2 and Step 4:
- If Region/City and Organization match → Both storage accounts are located in the same Azure region. The region configuration is correct.
- If Region/City or Organization do NOT match → The storage accounts are in different Azure regions. Consider migrating one of the resources to the same region to avoid cross-region issues.
