Symptom
- During month-end run of Perform Foreign Currency Valuation, the update run fails with error due to the account being blocked.
- It is noted that for other accounts, with a posting block set, the foreign currency valuation completes successfully and FCV adjustment postings are posted to the system.
Environment
SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition
Reproducing the Issue
- Open the app Perform Foreign Currency Valuation.
- Run the valuation for the closing period with selection that includes the balance sheet G/L account.
- Observe that the run picks up the account and issues an error that the account is blocked for posting.
Cause
- The G/L account is blocked for posting. For non–open item managed balance sheet accounts, the foreign currency valuation process creates direct adjustment postings to the account itself; a posting block prevents these postings and causes an error.
- In contrast if the account is open item managed, a posting block on the account will not prevent the foreign currency valuation program from executing and creating the adjustment entries since separate GL accounts are used for the valuation.
Resolution
- Check if the account involved is a non-OIM account in app 'Manage G/L account master data'.
- If confirmed, unblock the G/L account at both chart of accounts and company code levels before running Perform Foreign Currency Valuation again.
- Start the valuation again for the required period and enable “Save log” in Output/Technical settings to verify successful posting.
