3832685 - The values of Disk Storage Usage are different in Datasphere and HANA Cockpit

Symptom

The values of Disk Storage Usage are different in "Tenant Configuration" , "System and Spaces Monitoring" in Datasphere and "Database Overview" in HANA Cockpit.

For example:

Tenant Configuration

System and Spaces Monitoring

Database Overview

Environment

SAP Datasphere

Reproducing the Issue

Check Disk Storage Usage in "Tenant Configuration" , "System and Spaces Monitoring" in Datasphere and "Database Overview" in HANA Cockpit.

Cause

By design.

Resolution

  • Disk Storage in Tenant Configuration is the licensed storage quota stored in the Tenant Management Service (TMS), not the physical disk size. The value is a plain decimal number (GB) representing what the tenant is licensed for. Normally, HANA allocates disk with some overhead above the licensed limit, so the physical HANA allocation in System and Spaces Monitoring (480 GB) is slightly larger than the license quota (448 GB).

  • The values in "System and Spaces Monitoring" and "Database Overview" are both read from the raw value in table M_DISKS. This value also depends on the disk type is single or multiple. In this example, the value is 480699695104 (bytes).

    --totalDiskSize caculation:
    • --multiVolume:
      SELECT SUM(TOTAL_SIZE)  FROM M_DISKS d      INNER JOIN (SELECT DISTINCT HOST FROM SYS.M_SERVICES WHERE SERVICE_NAME = 'indexserver' AND COORDINATOR_TYPE = 'COORDINATOR' AND ACTIVE_STATUS = 'YES' AND VOLUME_REPLICATION_ROLE != 'REPLICA') s ON d.HOST = s.HOST      WHERE d.USAGE_TYPE IN ('DATA', 'LOG');

    • --singleVolume:
      SELECT SUM(TOTAL_SIZE)  FROM M_DISKS d      INNER JOIN (SELECT DISTINCT HOST FROM SYS.M_SERVICES WHERE SERVICE_NAME = 'indexserver' AND COORDINATOR_TYPE = 'COORDINATOR' AND ACTIVE_STATUS = 'YES' AND VOLUME_REPLICATION_ROLE != 'REPLICA') s ON d.HOST = s.HOST      WHERE d.USAGE_TYPE = 'DATA';

  •  The displayed values in "System and Spaces Monitoring" and "Database Overview" are different:

    • "System and Spaces Monitoring" uses decimal units (GB).
      480699695104  ÷ 109 = 480.699695104 GB  → displayed as "480.7 GB"

    • "Database Overview" uses binary calculation (GiB)
      480699695104 ÷ 10243 = 447.6864776611328 GiB → displayed as "447.69 GB"
