Symptom
You want to include dynamic field values directly in a validation message text so that end users see contextual information at runtime instead of a generic message.
Environment
- SAP Sales Cloud Version 2
- SAP Service Cloud Version 2
Reproducing the Issue
- Sign in to your SAP Sales and Service Cloud Version 2 tenant.
- Navigate to Settings > All Settings > Extensibility Administration.
- Select the target service and entity.
- Open or create a Validation rule.
- In the message text field, type { to view the list of supported fields available for use as placeholders.
Cause
Validation messages support dynamic field placeholders. When a placeholder is inserted into the message text, the system replaces it with the actual field value at runtime. This feature must be explicitly enabled per tenant before use.
Resolution
To insert a field placeholder into a validation message, type { in the message text field. A list of supported fields is displayed. Select the desired field to insert it as a placeholder.
The following constraints apply when using placeholders:
- A maximum of 5 placeholders can be added to a single validation message.
- Any placeholder referencing an unsupported field type will be replaced with a blank value at runtime.
- Messages exceeding 200 characters are automatically shortened to 200 characters at runtime.
- Array fields are not supported as placeholders.
Note: This feature must be enabled before use. To enable it, create a support case with component CEC-CRM-PM-PF using the subject: Enable field placeholders in validation.
