3833327 - Item-level determination not trigger when custom status is changed at header level

Symptom

You have a Custom Status field available at both Opportunity header and item levels.

An item-level determination is configured to trigger an assignment block when the Custom Status changes.

When  change the Custom Status at the header level, the updated value is also reflected at the item level.

However, the configured item-level determination is not triggered.

Environment

  • SAP Sales Cloud Version 2
  • SAP Service Cloud Version 2

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Open an Opportunity containing one or more items.
  2. At the header level, change Custom Status.
  3. Confirm the item-level field (Status) is updated as well.
  4. Observe that the item-level determination and the configured pre hook do not run.

Cause

  • By design, when a sub-entity (item) field is updated within the same Custom Logic execution cycle, the system does not run item-level determinations again to prevent recursive processing or infinite loops.
  • The same principle applies across the hierarchy: modifying a root entity does not run Custom Logic on its sub-entities (except during root creation), while modifying a sub-entity runs logic up to the root.

Resolution

This behavior is expected by design; item-level determinations are not run when the item field value is updated as a consequence of a header-level change within the same Custom Logic execution cycle.
