3593575 - Limitation in Data Inspector Export Functionality

Symptom

  • When attempting to export data from the Data Inspector, only a subset of the total records are included in the download.
  • Specifically, for example even though the Data Inspector displays a total of 5497 records, the downloaded file only contains 1000 records.
  • This discrepancy between the total records and the downloaded records is causing confusion for the customer's data analysis.

Environment

SAP SuccessFactors HCM Suite

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Navigate to the Data Inspector.
  2. Select the 'Table_USERS_SYSINFO' table.
  3. Click 'Show Data' to display the records.
  4. Click 'Download' to export the data.
  5. Open the downloaded file and observe that it only contains 1000 records, despite the Data Inspector displaying a total of number of records that exceeds 1000 records.

Cause

As per Engineering, the API used by the download function of the Data Inspector has a hardcoded limit of 1000 records for each download. When the number of records exceeds 1000, the API still only returns the first 1000 records.

Resolution

  1. Understand that the download limit for Data Inspector of 1000 records is hardcoded and cannot be changed.
  2. Consider using a reporting tool for generating reports to show the data you are trying to download, as the Data Inspector is primarily a troubleshooting tool.
  3. If you need to check internal user's data, consider exporting the User Data File (UDF) of the instance instead. This file contains all fields that are displayed on the Data Inspector page.
