3805606 - Newly hired or updated employees are not searchable in People Search (DC33)

Symptom

  • On DC33, newly hired employees or recent changes to existing employee records, such as name or job information, may not immediately appear or take effect in People Search.
  • The updated information may take an extended period to be reflected in People Search. The changes are eventually reflected automatically, sometimes without any action required.

Environment

SAP SuccessFactors HCM Suite

Cause

Some employee data changes were not immediately visible in search results. This was due to a temporary processing delay in the service responsible for updating the search index.
Employee changes are processed and added to the search index in the background. A backlog developed in part of this processing, which delayed the updates from appearing in search.
As a result, some employee records temporarily showed older information in search results, even though the updated information was already available in the source system.
There was no data loss and no customer configuration issue. The employee data remained intact; only the time taken for the changes to become searchable was affected.

The issue was related to a temporary infrastructure processing backlog, and the affected updates were processed once the backlog was addressed.

Resolution

The issue is self-correcting. Once the pending new hire events are processed, the affected employee records will automatically become searchable. No customer action is required for this to occur.

To help accelerate recovery, the Engineering team has already taken the following actions:

  1. Enabled an enhancement to improve event processing throughput.
  2. Requested additional processing capacity for the event processing pipeline.

The Engineering team is aware of the issue and is actively monitoring the processing capacity. While the condition was expected to be fully resolved by September 17, we are still observing a data processing delay of approximately 20–40 minutes for new hires and for backlog events the processing time is higher .The Engineering teams are currently working internally to explore increasing the infrastructure partition capacity to accommodate the higher data volumes and improve processing times.

September 18 : We would like to provide an update regarding the processing delay previously observed in DC33.

The lag issue has now been resolved. Engineering has confirmed that there is no longer any processing delay in DC33, and new events are being processed as expected.

For customers who were impacted during the backlog period, previously accumulated events cannot be automatically rebalanced. As a result, some employee records may continue to have search accuracy issues. For affected customers, the recommended resolution is to rebuild the Enhanced People Search index. Rebuilding the index will restore full search accuracy for the affected employee records.

Workaround

While the pending events are being processed, the following options are available:

  1. Manual search index refresh (re-index): A specific employee record can be manually re-indexed to make it searchable sooner. Please note that, due to the current processing backlog, the refresh may still take some time to complete.
  2. Use the legacy People Search: If immediate access to newly hired or updated employee records is required, you can temporarily switch to the legacy People Search experience, which is not affected by the current processing delay.

Please create a case with component LOD-SF-PLT-SRH if the issue still persists following the above workaround for DC33 / other DCs.

October 12:DC33 and other DCs lag issue is resolved from the Product side.

If employees are still not searchable after this, it may be due to a different known issue, such as a New Hire search delay, rather than the DC33 or any other DC delay.

Processing delays can occur for regular data changes as well, not just for new hires. This is expected because updates are processed in the background, so some delay before the changes become available is normal.
